4th Grade Mathematics
-MARCH-
This month, students students completed our fractions unit by examining the relationship between fractions and decimals, specifically for 10th and 100th. After we complete our fraction unit, students will take the ICA assessment, which is an interim practice assessment for the state. Results from the ICA will be reported to the district and used to make instructional decisions in class on which standards need to be retaught prior to the end of the year CAASPP assessment.
After the ICA, students will move on to Chapter 13: Area and Perimeter. Students will learn how to use a formula to calculate the perimeter and the area of a rectangle. Students will be reminded that the perimeter is the distance measured around a shape, while the area is the space within a shape (similar to the arrays they create using multiplication). Students will also learn how to calculate the area of complex figures and find the missing sides of a shape based on a given area or perimeter.
Following chapter 13, we will circle back to our geometry standards in chapter 10. Students will learn how to identify and classify 2 dimensional figures. Please see the vocabulary for Chapter 10 below.
